Indicator Definition

Initiatives: An initiative in advocacy or policy dialogue refers to a systematic, mid- to long-term effort aimed at achieving a specific change, such as a legislative or regulatory shift, or the establishment of new institutions, programs or services. It typically involves a combination of activities, events, and efforts by one or more organizations working together. An initiative can be driven by a single entity or through collaborations in networks or alliances. Helvetas, for example, may support or co-lead such initiatives by facilitating, funding, or offering strategic support, but not through one-off events or actions.

Enhance: Improve the effectiveness, inclusiveness, transparency, accountability, and/or equity of policies, spaces, and services to prevent or reduce conflicts and promote social cohesion.

Examples of Actvities

  • Advocating for policy change: advocating for inclusive policies that address the root causes of conflict and promote social cohesion.

  • Promoting institutional support: supporting the establishment of institutional mechanisms to support peacebuilding activities to promote reconciliation and understanding among conflicting groups, e.g. establishment of a peacebuilding fund or peacebuilding support center

  • Institutionalizing dialogue spaces: persuading authorities to create and maintain public spaces that encourage dialogue and interaction among community members.

  • Supporting new structures and services: supporting local and/or national actors to establish community-based conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms such as local peace committees.

Data should be collected continuously throughout the project, whenever activities are completed.

Data Collection Guidance

Track initiatives throughout the project. Keep a record of all initiatives established or supported during the project, including policies, norms, standards, or regulations related to enhancing enhance inclusive policy, spaces, and/or services that prevent or reduce conflicts for more social cohesion. Gather project reports, policy documents, and relevant records from government or supported organizations to verify the establishment or support of initiatives.

If resources allow, conduct follow-up surveys or interviews with stakeholders involved in the initiatives to assess their impact and relevance.

How to report

Reporting to Head office is done annually. Aggregate the total number of initiatives established or supported to enhance inclusive policy, spaces, and services for preventing or reducing conflicts and promoting social cohesion (in many projects this is just one).

 

Note that this is an output indicator, and the purpose of the indicator is to count the number of initiatives that tries to enhance inclusive policy, spaces, and services for preventing or reducing conflicts and promoting social cohesion. It does not have to be successfully implemented as long as there is an ongoing process.Successful initiatives should be reported under indicators T 004 and T 005
