REACH 001 Number of primary stakeholders

Indicator Definition

Indicator Name REACH 001 Number of people reached by the project activities / involved in the project (primary stakeholders)
Indicator Definition

This indicator captures the total number of unique individuals reached by a project, without counting the same person more than once. This is important because many projects report how many people they reach through different activities, such as WASH or agricultural support. However, the same person may participate in multiple activities and be counted more than once across different indicators.

To avoid over-reporting at the institutional level, it's essential to track the total number of unique individuals reached by a project.

Common Challenges

One of the biggest challenges in reporting is double counting — when the same person is counted more than once because they joined more than one activity.

A good primary stakeholder database helps you avoid this. By keeping track of which individuals took part in which activities, you can make sure each person is only counted once in the total number reached for a specific reporting period.

To make this work, it’s important to keep a record of each activity a person joins, along with a timestamp or reporting year. This allows you to track their participation over time.

If someone takes part in the same activity in different years, they should only be reported as new the first time they participate. In later years, they should not be counted again.
