FAN 1.2.1 Sustainable production, processing, and/or trade practices

Indicator Definition

Indicator Name FAN 1.2.1 Number of smallholders capacitated in sustainable production, processing, and/or trade practices
Indicator Definition

This indicator measures the number of smallholders who have enhanced their knowledge and/or received inputs to implement sustainable agriculture and processing practices. This includes participants in training programs, recipients of agricultural inputs, and those who benefited from extension services or other support activities aimed at improving agricultural productivity, income, or dietary diversity.

Sustainable practices focus on maintaining agricultural productivity while conserving natural resources, such as water and soil, and promoting long-term viability through efficient resource use and access to sustainable markets.

Measuring Unit

Smallholders who have directly benefited from training, capacity building, or the distribution of agricultural inputs aimed at promoting sustainable practices (primary stakeholders).

Examples of Actvities

  • Training on sustainable agriculture practices, including soil conservation, water management, organic farming, and pest management.

  • Distribution of seeds, tools, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs to smallholders to improve productivity and sustainability.

  • Establish demonstration plots to showcase sustainable farming techniques and their benefits.

  • Provide capacity-building workshops for smallholders on climate resilient agriculture practices, post-harvest processing, storage, and value addition techniques.

  • Provide ongoing extension services to assist smallholders with the adoption and long-term application of sustainable agricultural practices.

  • Distribution of educational materials, pamphlets, and guides on sustainable agriculture practices.

Data Collection

Data Source and Means of Verification
  • Trainings: Attendance sheets, participant lists, training reports.

  • Distribution of Information and Materials: Distribution lists (number of kits distributed), Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM) reports.

  • Field Reports: Reports from field staff on the number of smallholders reached through extension services or demonstration plots.

Measuring Frecuency

Data should be collected continuously throughout the project, whenever activities are completed.

Data Collection Guidance

Data on number of primary stakeholders should be collected regularly, ideally after each training session, input distribution, or extension service activity.

Surveys and interviews with participants should be conducted periodically (e.g., quarterly, bi-annually) to assess the application of sustainable practices and the outcomes of the interventions.

How to report

  1. Aggregate the total number of individuals who completed training (or participated in the project another way) without double counting.

  2. Disaggregate the data by required categories.

  3. Report the data annually
